This is a citizen\'s festival that started in 1957, following the legend that Lord Tokugawa Ieyasu took his retainers to Sunpu to view the cherry blossoms.
It is a popular festival when the cherry blossoms are in full bloom, mainly because of the Hanami Parade.
Every year from the first Friday to Sunday in April, mainly at Sunpu Castle, which is just a short walk from Shizuoka Station, and in the city center.
