In the 15th year of Keicho (1610), the "Aoi-tsukai", an envoy to present hollyhocks, presented "hollyhock hollyhocks" from Kamigamo Shrine to Ieyasu, the great lord of Sunpu Castle,From then on, it continued to be offered to the shogunate until the restoration of imperial rule.
Futaba-Aoi, the sacred crest of Kamigamo Shrine in Kyoto, is said to be the origin of the family crest of the Tokugawa Shoguns.

the "Aoi-tsukai", which was revived in 2007 for the first time in 140 years, makes its annual visit to Sunpu for the Shizuoka Festival.

At the 59th Shizuoka Festival, the "Saiodai" came from Kamigamo Shrine in Kyoto to participate in the welcoming ceremony.

The 68th (2024) Shizuoka Festival The Aoitsukai Welcome Ceremony will be held on April 6th (Saturday) from 15:00 at the Sunpu Grand Enbujo.
