Sunpu Aoi no Ichi

"Ichi" originally arose spontaneously from a place of barter, but the "Sekiichi Rei" was stipulated in the Taiho Ritsuryo (701), and in Kyoto, a city governor was appointed to supervise the market. It was decided to do so. Around the same time, officially recognized ``ichi'' were formed in rural areas as well. There was also a large market called Abe no Ichi in this area of Sunpu.

According to "Shizuoka Prefectural History (Volume 2)", the area where Abe's market was located at that time covers part of Ryogae-cho, Kamigoku-cho, Umeya-cho, Hitoyado-cho, and Shichiken-cho, and covers approximately 300 square meters. It was said to be within an area of 400 meters (approximately 16 hectares).

Until the 60th Shizuoka Festival, "Ichi (flea market)" was held in Sunpu Castle Park during the festival period, but due to the excavation of Sunpu Castle, the festival venue was no longer reduced in size. However, starting with the 67th event, it was relocated to the Aoba venue, and "Sunpu Aoi no Ichi" was established near its original location.
